Bangkok’s beauty lies in its contrasting modernity and ancient heritage. Just take a walk along its city streets and one will be enchanted by its cosmopolitan cityscapes, with skyscrapers and fast cars, alongside its old world charm of rustic shop houses and Tuk tuks.

1. The Temples

Orange robed monks and nuns dressed in white are common sightings in Bangkok. The deeply pious city has over 500 Buddhist temples with the majority of its people practicing Buddhism. The more famous temples such as, Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho, are open to the public and tourists.

2. Food
The city’s rich heritage can also be found in their flavourful recipes, it is a well-known food and shoppers’ paradise. Along most streets or ‘thanon’ there would be popular Thai street food for one’s snacking indulgence. Some food vendors selling less on-the-go food such as Kwaytio, a soup-based noodle dish, create makeshift stations for patrons to dine in a minimalist setting. Popular Thai curries, fried flat rice noodles and the famous hot and sour soup, Tom Yam Kung, can also be found in most restaurants and food courts within malls.

3. Shopping

For all the avid shoppers, Bangkok has shopping outlets to suit any whim and fancy. From mega malls carrying international brands to day or night markets such as, Chatuchak, selling clothes, shoes, beautiful artworks, home decors, and other interesting finds.

4. Weather
Bangkok is a relatively fast-paced city with the usual peak period common in most big cities. The weather in Bangkok is usually warm and humid, a typical tropics weather. Fortunately, basic tops and shorts are acceptable in most places within Bangkok.

Traveling around Bangkok is not difficult as most Thai locals are able to speak basic English, especially those in the service frontline. A good public train system is also in place for most parts of Bangkok, otherwise, take the many metered taxis or Tuk tuks available. True to its name the Land of Smiles, Thai people are friendly and respectful, and many will not mind answering queries or lending a helping hand.

A vibrant city, with a charming old and new world mix—Bangkok is a place one can easily call home.
